Food
Searches mostly for tree seeds like box elder,
pines,
and sugar maples. Also attracted to nuts, buds, fruit, insects,
tree
sap, and even road salt. Will come to bird feeders that offer
sunflower
seeds.
Habitat
In the summer it lives in northern mixed coniferous
woods. The winter months tend to draw the bird out into open
areas
with trees, shrubs, and even into suburban areas.
