Identification
Overall length of 4 1/2". A white eyebrow
separates a dark cap from the black eye line. Rusty colored
underside.
Male: Black cap with very richly colored underside. Female: A
gray
cap with lightly colored underside.
Food
Easily noticed because of its creeping headfirst
down the trunks of trees in search of insects. Attracted to bird
feeders offering sunflower seed, safflower, and suet.
Habitat
Thrives in coniferous woods.
