Netscape

Netscape is the standard client for searching the World Wide Web
Check this out! There are pointers and Links to sites that can help in gaining experience with this powerful browser. It takes a little time to develop good Search skills. "Searching" the web is different than just "browsing" the web! Netscape has a legitimate rival and it is not America Online. Internet Explorer has come a long way! Seven Wonders of the Web
- Info -
All sites on the WWW are in a programing code called HTML (HyperText Markup Language). This HTML code needs to be translated before most people can read/use the web sites. Another programming language, Java (Javascript), is becomming more prominant on many web sites and requires a more updated browser for all effects. (Netscape 3 or Internet Explorer 3 - Sorry AOL users!)

The two most popular clients to make this HTML translation are Netscape and Internet Explorer. Using Netscape, for most people, is the Internet! The more recent versions of both have a few more "perks" but sometimes take too much RAM memory for ordinary computers. Netscape 3 and Internet Explorer 3 have the features most people need and are moderate in memory use. NOTE: I do not use a Brower application for email. It seems rather a waste to use such a large program application for a small job like email. There are many full-featured email clients that (IMHO) do the email job much better (Eudora is my favorite!) and one does not have to open the "multi-featured" browser for email tasks!

How to get started:

Where to go??? Where do you want to go???

Most people use a search engine to begin a search for a topic.

Netscape Hints

How to get there!!

Search Word Hints:

NOTE: Think back to the efficient use of Yahoo! categories.

Suggestion: When you type in search words:
  1. Start with larger categories and move to more specific words for best results.
  2. The simplest way to type in search words is to type specific words and leave spaces between them (you will learn about many other types of search techniques but this simple way is enough for most people).

Every Search Engine Site will have some helpful "tips" for generating a search.
Excite! has an excellent guide (Search Tips) into making a good search. There are some helps on choosing key words and on considering what key words to use.

Do I have to repeat browsing/searching system all the time?

Bookmarks:

Review:
Bookmarks are used to save the address of places that you like or find useful so you don't have to remember the long cryptic set of symbols to get there again or don't have to repeat the lengthy browse/search process again.

All of this disappears when I turn off the computer!!
