Attach Files - AOL

Introduction

America Online, a nice internet service, does things a bit differently than other email clients but it is easy to learn how to use. Remember that "Practice makes permanent" and conversely that if one does not practice skills, they certainly cannot be expected to be permanant skills. Attaching a file to an email message is a very important skill for an expanded email user. Do it once in a while so you "remember how to do it".

Receiving A File

Topic 1 - Compressed Files / Stuffit Expander is a necessity!

Stuffit Expander is the single most necessary application to learn how to use when receiving files.
  1. Find out if you have Stuffit Expander!

If you have previously installed Stuffit Expander, there will be an "alias" of Stuffit Expander on your desktop. Notice this!!!!

If you do not see this "alias" then,
Use the command f keyboard shortcut,
    Type in Stuffit
    Click Find
Locate Stuffit Expander Application Program and place an "alias" of this on your desktop

  2. If you do not have Stuffit Expander, Download it now and install it!

    Download Stuffit Expander

  1. Go To Mail Center
  2. Double-click message to be received
  3. Click on Download Now
  4. Select a location (easiest is the Desktop)
  5. File will download to your Desktop and will probably be called attached.mim
  6. This file needs to be expanded before it can be used so Drag and Drop this attached.mim file on top of the icon for Stuffit Expander to expand the file.
  7. After it is expanded, double-click the file to open it. NOTE: If you have received a file for which you have the proper application, it will automatically open. If not, you must use MacLinks Plus to open the file.

Topic 3 - Receiving an Attached Not Compressed File (Step by Step)

  1. Go To Mail Center
  2. Double-click message to be received
  3. Click on Download Now
  4. Select a location (easiest is the Desktop)
  5. File will download to your Desktop and will probably open (if the following conditions are right)
  6. NOTE: If you have received a file for which you have the proper application, it will automatically open. If not, you must use MacLinks Plus to open the file.

Topic 4 - NOTE:

Compressed files are always better than uncompressed files because they are less likely to be "damaged" or "incomplete" after the transfer process. Always send Compressed Files.
